Nuclear Facilities
CDI has provided innovative demolition solutions at both commercial and government nuclear facilities for almost 50 years. CDI performed commercial explosives demolition operations at Maine Yankee in Wiscasset, Maine, Yankee Rowe in Rowe, Massachusetts, FPL at Turkey Point, Florida, VEPCO North Anna Plant in Mineral, Virginia, Trojan Nuclear in Rainier, Oregon, Big Rock Nuclear in Charlevoix, Michigan and Salem Generating Station in New Jersey. CDI has worked for multiple program/decommissioning demolition managers at various DOE sites including eleven projects at Hanford in Richland, Washington, seven projects at the Nevada test site in Mercury, Nevada, seven projects at Rocky Flats in Golden, Colorado, four projects at Idaho National Laboratories in Idaho Falls, Idaho, three projects at Savannah River Site at Aiken, South Carolina, three projects at FERMCO in Fernald, Ohio, two projects at Oakridge in Oakridge, Tennessee, one project at Rancho Saco Nuclear in Sacramento, California, one project at the Paducah site in Paducah, Kentucky, and one project for British Nuclear at Sellafield, UK. CDI also performed one nuclear project for the Department of Defense at the Harry Diamond Laboratory in Washington, D.C.
CDI’s operations at these various sites have included demolition of reinforced concrete and steel containment structures, felling of steel towers, concrete chimneys, hyperbolic cooling towers, water tanks, bag house structures, high-bay/other fabrication facilities, felling of polar cranes, fragmentation of reinforced concrete reactor pedestals, turbine pedestals, shield walls, and even the explosives felling of process piping, to remotely put them safely at grade to avoid onerous DOE demolition worker regulations accelerate productivity and reduce costs as compared to previously applied methods at DOE sites.
