Sheraton Hotel at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport

The Sheraton Hotel closed July 23, 2017, after being acquired for $16.8 million by the City of Atlanta. The property was demolished to make way for future expansion of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI) acted as Explosives Contractor to the Main Demolition Joint Venture between Renascent, Inc., of Indianapolis, Indiana and Corporate Environmental Risk Management, LLC (CERM) of Tucker, Georgia. CDI performed the preparations for and successful explosives felling of the 12-story, post-tensioned, reinforced concrete tower portion of the former Sheraton Hotel located in Atlanta, Georgia. CDI coordinated the countdown with the Georgia Department of Transportation, who established a rolling roadblock on an adjacent Interstate and with the Hartsfield Traffic Control Tower, leading up to the felling of the structure at 7:30 AM on Sunday, September 5, 2021.
